Using OLTC-Fitted Distribution Transformer to Increase Residential PV Hosting Capacity: Decentralized Voltage Management Approach

The increasing Photovoltaic (PV) penetration in residential Low Voltage (LV) networks is likely to result a voltage rise problem. One of the potential solutions deal with this problem adopt distribution transformer fitted an On-Load Tap Changer (OLTC). control OLTC response local measurements reduces need for expensive communication channels and remote measuring devices. However, requires developing advanced decision-making algorithm estimate existence issues define best set point OLTC. This paper presents decentralized data-driven approach operate using at (i.e., active power secondary side transformer). To do so, Monte Carlo simulations are utilized offline produce comprehensive dataset flows throughout customers’ voltages different PV penetrations. By application curve-fitting technique resulting dataset, models maximum minimum defined embedded into logic manage real time. UK LV feeder shows its effectiveness improving hosting capacity without monitoring elements.
